Honda - sure, you told me about the faulty airbags by spending millions on a huge advertising campaign, alerting drivers about your airbag recall (because you were forced to).
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
But now what?
I called the Honda dealer 5 weeks ago and he ordered the replacement airbags for my car. But they are back-ordered by 6 to 8 weeks. That makes me terrified to drive my car, but I have to get to places...
Honda is perfectly fine with me driving a death-trap for a decade, because they didn't come out with this info earlier. And after they were forced to admit this problem, they still aren't putting enough effort into making me safer. Way to go, Honda!

Why would honda order thousands of replacement air bags until they need them?
Look at both sides of the picture.

What do you want? Do you expect them to eat a couple bits of plastic, wires, nylon and shit you out an air bag assembly? Parts don't work that way champ.

I work with the supply chain division for a multi billion dollar company. I get your point.
But this is exactly why you'd have more than one/two capable suppliers set up as back ups.
They weren't the only manufacturer affected were they?
Right. But just because other manufacturers make a bad decision, that shouldn't justify Honda's reluctance to take action. Being just as bad as the others still means you're bad.

Agreed. But working to shorten the lead time would certainly help. Of course, they might already be doing this, but 6-8 weeks is still too long.
Use the money chalked for the advertisements to pay a premium for the airbags, so existing supplier would make Honda's order a priority? Anything to improve the current situation would be a step in the right direction.
I don't have a solution to this. I'm just pointing out that funding the resolution of known issues should be their priority and I don't feel like it is.

It's just a shit situation. I noticed ford is having bad part supply issues before I left the dealer. Especially on recall or TSB parts.

Yeah...I'm sure other manufacturers unfortunately have similar issues.
